Simple Traits In A Healthy Relationship

simple traits of a healthy relationship

We experience many relationships over the course of our lives. They come and go and change over time. As such, there are simple traits to look for in a healthy relationship.

In a positive, healthy relationship, you feel like you. You feel both supported and encouraged. Additionally, you are heard and respected.

Are you in a healthy relationship with these simple traits?

You like you.

Do you like who you are in your relationship? While we are in healthy, positive relationships, we receive the support needed to pursue our goals and grow to be our best self.

Do you like who you are in your relationship.

You can be you.

You had family, friends and interests before your relationship. In a healthy, positive relationship, you carve out time for your “me time”. You can retain your interests and hobbies in a healthy relationship.

Having a stronger sense of self is an important trait for a healthy relationship as it helps create a stronger union.

You speak and are heard.

Being a good listener is a practiced skill. In a healthy relationship, you can speak and be heard.

Your opinions aren’t met with defensiveness or blame. When you voice a concern, raise a topic, or broach a subject, you met with respect and are heard. Additionally, you can listen to your partners opinion in the same regard.

You can fight fair.

Conflicts will arise in every relationship. How you and your partner handle that conflict matters. Fighting doesn’t mean yelling, name calling, or demeaning one another. Communicating differences in a healthy manner helps build strong relationships.

These simple traits are present in every healthy relationship.

Knowing what traits to look for in a healthy relationship is a great way to look at and assess new or future relationships.

Healthy relationships takes work.  It may not always be perfect, but you can always work on it and grow. To learn more about the traits of a healthy relationship, check out this post here.
