Most of us would do anything for our children. One of the most important things we can do for our children is to raise them with love. There are a few simple ways you can help your child feel loved.
Praise Your Child
We all like to hear nice things about us. Make sure to give your child praise. If you think something kind about your child, say it!
Another great way to boost your child’s feelings of being loved is to tell someone else about the good things your child does…in ear shot of your child. When we “overhear” a kind comment we are far more likely to believe it. Help build your child up with praise.
Accept Your Child Without Judgement
If you want your child to come to you for help and support, you’ll want to set the framework now. If your child comes to you and receives criticism, he/she will think twice about relying on you for support in the future.
Be there for your child without judgement or criticism. You should be your child’s biggest advocate.
Be Present to Help Your Child Feel Loved
Quality time is far more important than the quantity of time you give.
If you attend every baseball game your child has but you are on your phone for most of the game, will your child feel your presence at the game?
What if we instead focus on quality time with our kids. If you attend 1 game, keep your phone off and watch your child’s game the entire time. Talk with your child after and see if he/she responds differently.
Be present when you’re with your kids. Spending time with your child is not the time to multi-task. Giving him/her your undivided attention for 30 minutes will far outweigh 3 hours of distracted time.
