Are you in a healthy romantic relationship?

It’s important to know what to look for in a healthy romantic relationship.

Keep in mind though, the term “healthy” does not mean “perfect”. Relationships will have ups and downs. There will be good times as well as bad times. The couple will determine the health of their relationship.

4 Qualities of a Healthy Romantic Relationship

There are many qualities to look for in a healthy relationship. These 4 attributes can help you identify a healthy romantic relationship.

Your voice is heard and respected.

It’s important to never lose who you are in a relationship. Can you speak your mind with your partner? Do you share your feelings and opinions openly? When you voice your thoughts, are they respected even when they are disagreed upon?

In a healthy relationship, you can talk freely without repercussions. A healthy relationship consists of two people who can talk, share, and disagree.

Conflict is inevitable. It’s okay to disagree. It’s how you handle that conflict as a couple that defines whether or not your romantic relationship is healthy.

You share household responsibility.

A healthy romantic relationship has two equal partners. That doesn’t mean each parter has to do exactly half of the work. However, each partner needs to contribute fully to keep the household running and to keep the other partner from being rundown, overworked, and underappreciated.

In a healthy romantic relationship, daily tasks are shared, no matter if they work in or out of the home.

You trust and you are trustworthy.

True trust comes down to belief in character.  Believing in their strength and integrity.

Trust shouldn’t be given blindly.  It is earned when you show yourself to be reliable, honest, and present.

Trust is gained over time and lost in an instant. When you both can trust and are trustworthy, your romantic relationship is the greater for it.

You are happy in your day to day in a healthy romantic relationship.

Are you happy? Not every moment of every day, but overall, do you feel happy in your relationship?

In a healthy romantic relationship, the couple can laugh together, play together, live and thrive together.  There is kindness and support. And when times get tough, your partner helps lift you back up.
