Do you wake up and think “Oh my gosh. I have to do this all over again?” Do you try to get work done only to have someone screaming “Mom!” the second you try to take a call, or send an email, or get 1 bite of lunch? Have you ever secretly wished for an illness or injury just to get some alone time? Moms are so often overwhelmed, but there is help. Counseling can help.
We Can’t Do It All – – And That’s OK!
As moms, we may feel a pressure to achieve perfection. We can incorrectly think that everyone else has this thing figured out. We look at other moms and wonder why they have it so easy. Here’s a hint – – they don’t!
No one can do it all. And that’s okay! We aren’t meant to be everything to everyone.
You Matter
When was the last time you did something for you? Do you remember the last time you felt happiness?
It can seem nearly impossible to take time for yourself when you already feel as though you don’t have enough time in your day. When you feel like you are drowning, you can’t always think to grab the life preserver. You may question if there even is a life preserver.
When you feel overwhelmed and exhausted, sad and stressed, you can start to question whether you are good enough as a person, or as a mother. When you are chronically overwhelmed, you may lose yourself entirely.
There is hope! You can feel happiness again.
You Need to Put Yourself First
I can’t stress how important it is to put yourself first. As a mother, as a caregiver, you need to take care of your own needs in order to take care of those that depend on you.
You can put yourself first and still be a loving mother, friend and spouse. In fact, if you put yourself first, you will be an even better mother, friend and spouse. And the best part? You’ll enjoy yourself again.
Being a mother is challenging. It can be overwhelming. You don’t have to live a life full of chaos and tears. It’s okay to put yourself first and take some time for just you.
Feeling overwhelmed happens to all of us. Take some time where you can find it. If you can’t find it, make it. You matter. Remember that…You matter.
Talk therapy is effective. The sooner you get treatment, the sooner you will start to feel better. My office in Washington, PA is warm and inviting. It’s a place where we can sit, grab a drink, relax and just talk.
