What to ask your insurance company
I always encourage new clients to contact their insurance company to verify if the therapist who they are looking to work with accepts their insurance plan prior to their initial therapy visit. There will be a phone number for “member services” on the back of your insurance card. Below are some important questions to ask:
- Do I have coverage for outpatient mental health treatment?
- Do I have a deductible to meet prior to my counseling appointments being covered? If so, how much of the deductible still needs to be satisfied?
- Do I have a co-payment or co-insurance for my counseling appointments? If so, what is the co-pay amount or percent of co-insurance that I’m responsible for?
- Do I have a yearly visit limit for outpatient mental health treatment?
- Does my plan cover online counseling? If so, is the insurance company waiving cost-sharing for online counseling appointments?
Out-of-Network Insurance Coverage
If we are not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still be able to work with us for counseling services and use your insurance benefits if you have out-of-network coverage. There will be a phone number for “member services” on the back of your insurance card. Below are some important questions to ask:
- Does my plan offer out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health treatment?
- If so, what percent of the session cost will be covered?
- Do I have a deductible to meet prior to receiving out-of-network coverage? If so, how much of the deductible still needs to be satisfied?
- Are there any specific requirements for using an out-of-network provider?
- Do I need to get pre-authorization prior to using an out-of-network provider for counseling services? If so, what is the process for getting counseling services pre-authorized?
If you decide to work with us as an out-of-network provider for counseling, you will have to pay for your therapy session in full at the time of the appointment. We will provide you with a superbill which you will use to submit to your insurance company to obtain the reimbursement amount that you are eligible for.
Self-Pay Rates
If you don’t have insurance or choose not to use your insurance coverage, the cost per session is as follows:
Individual Counseling Sessions
$125 per 60 minute session
$150 for initial evaluation
Online Counseling Sessions
$125 per 60 minute session
$150 for initial evaluation
